It's never too early to start researching different colleges, and there are many different ways to do that!
- Explore career interests: a good tool to help students narrow on a specific career path is http://www.onetonline.org/
- Find Major/Degree Programs: Use Big Future to find a variety of programs https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-search
- Resource Center For Future College Students: https://universityhq.org/resources/
- Compare services offered by each college (ex. Academic, Counseling, etc)
- Look at how many students graduate from the school/program
- Explore what kind of atmosphere you think you will thrive in (ex. big/small schools)
- Do a practice application online
- Learn what applications are free and which ones you have to pay for
campus visits
The campus visit the single best way to find out whether or not your student should attend a specific school. If you or your student feels uneasy on a campus, then they should not go there.

- What kind of services/resources are offered?
- How safe is the campus?
- What kind of activities/clubs does the school offer?
- How far from home is the school?
- Ask to meet with the professors
- Is it affordable?
